River Market Memory(s)

It seems like a million years ago since these were taken...though, they're just over a week old.
 I met up with my pal Memory at the River Market downtown for an exchange of goods and some picture playtime.

She purchased this feather headband from me. You see, I've had better luck selling to the locals through my Facebook. I would've updated the Etsy shop, but meeting up with people I know seemed much more appealing and less troublesome this time around. There's nothing like meeting up with friends for food and conversation (and money!) I've made about $100 selling my goods (even doing transactions while I was on the clock at Half of Half!).
Oh well, mo' monies for Spain!

This is what I wore.
It's much too hot for jeans, but I had to swap out when I went to work later that day.
->Nude Cardi, Clearance - Charlotte Russe
-> Striped Cami, $1 - Thrifted
-> High-waisted Denim Shorts, $3 - Thrifted
->Fat Man Face Pendant, DIY - Upcycled Eyeglass Lens
->Brown Oxfords, $4 - Thrifted
->Leopard Print Scarf worn as Turban Wrap, Thrifted

This is Memory. Ain't she purdy?

We spotted these kiddos splashing around in the spraying fountains near the playground.
It's a great way to keep cool and immediately we decided to join in on the fun!

I kept squealing from the sudden bursts of water splashing around me.
Memory did a really good job of capturing the moment because every photo she took of me had me flailing about like a dork.
Seriously though, I look like a total pansy...but it was so worth it!

Of course, Memory needed a good splash as well. Getting soaked is the ideal way to keep cool in the hot Southern sunshine.
I mean, the lil' kiddos definitely know what's up!

We had also ventured around the shops in downtown, looking for knickknacks and doodads.
I picked up a book featuring the Pictorial History of Little Rock for my Spanish host family
 as well as two Natural State pins for my host-brother and host-sister.
I think pins are neat, let's just hope they think likewise!

Memory picked up this Arkansas Razorback snout for her host family in Austria.
It's very becoming!
WOOOOOO-PIG-SOOOOOIEEE!

CrayCray Craft Day: Pendant Pandemonium

I stock up on cheap granny glasses and pop out the lenses.
I finally got around to making them into pendants/brooches during my CrayCray Craft Day.

The tools of the trade:
Scissors, hot glue gun, pliers, hardcore glue, jewelry findings, mod podge,
varnish, ribbon, scrapbook paper,  and magazine images.
Oh, I forgot the sweat and tears...I kid, I kid.

My mom was sitting at the dining room table with me as I was crafting,
but she is just a tad bit camera shy.

Here's the backside of the finished product.
You can see how these babies serve double-duty as both pendant and brooch.
Pretty shnazzy, eh?

I had to keep one for myself. This particular image is really great.
It's another one of those slightly inappropriate but no one can tell unless they stare really hard and really closely.
My mom thinks I'm a pervert.

For Your Viewing Pleasure: The Nuddy Pants Pendant
I wore this on Tuesday for a day of
thrifting, movies, kitty-cats, dinner, and ice cream with the lovely Mango!
->NuddyPants eyeglass lens pendant/brooch - DIY
->Black Turban, $5 - Asian Hair Store
-> Striped Dress worn as a Tank, $12 - TJ Maxx
-> Hemmed Khaki Skirt - Thrifted/DIY

I have yet to update my etsy shop
mostly because I'm letting the locals get first dibs on the merchandise and!
because I'm lazy. Mostly because I'm lazy.
Speaking of, I should start packing for Spain!

CrayCray Craft Day: Oversized Red Bow

I bought this exaggerated red bow from the flea market for a buck with intentions of repurposing it for a headband.
My mom laughed at me because I wore similar bows as a kid and absolutely hated them.
However, I did not plan on wearing this one atop a heavily hairsprayed, slicked back, too tight ponytail.

And so began my CrayCray Craft Day. It was super simple, only requiring me to hot glue it onto a headband.
It served as my warm-up craft, to get me in the swing of things.

Yesterday was my day off and I didn't have any outings planned until much later.
I finally hemmed this cute khaki skirt I thrifted on a recent outing with Starr and decided to pair it with my new hairpiece.
It's refreshing to get out of jeans.

And now For Your Viewing Pleasure: Big Red Bow
This was taken outside of my friend Ginna's house. I had taken some at my place earlier, but I quickly chickened out when I saw the neighbors staring. Those pictures all looked terribly awkward. I still look awkward because a lady walked by with her dog and watched.
I stopped taking pictures and awkwardly smiled at her, she told me I looked pretty.

->Repurposed Big Red Bow Headband, $1 - Thrifted/DIY
->Mens Chambray Western Button-up, $7 - Savers
->Hemmed Khaki Button-up Skirt - Thrifted/DIY
-Brown Oxfords, $4 - Thrifted

More crafty goodness to come!

The Thought Alone Makes Me Itchy

Just before moving back in with Momz and Popz, I consolidated my overgrown magazine collection by ripping out pages. These pages were meant for my sketchbook/inspiration book and images for my upcycled eyeglass lens pendants. One image in particular I saved for my friend Tatiana, the one with the elephant farm from a few posts back.

I forget exactly where I found this image, but I think it's so great. From afar, you can't really tell what's going on...and when you do, you can't help but laugh. Sorry if this offends anyone, but really..."You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals."

I'll be making more of these babies to put in the shop. I want to make them more functional, so I'm thinking about attaching findings so that these pendants can also be worn as hair clips and pins.

This is a pin that I found this weekend when I was hunting for more vintage findings. I'll also be handing it off to Tatiana. I hope she likes it!

Now I'm off to meet up with some of my fellow Donaghey Scholars for dinner at Masala's. It's bound to be tons of fun. I'll have Cammy Jr. on hand to document!

For Your Viewing Pleasure: What I'm Wearing to Dinn-Dinn
New spot, but I was just told that there may be poison ivy back there. Gah, I sure hope not! The thought alone makes me cringe...and itch.

At least it looks pretty?

Sketchbook Diaries

As a part of IB Visual Arts in High School, I had to keep up with a sketchbook. You know, those black hardbound sketchbooks. I had to complete an entire sketchbook a year, no easy task, especially if you happen to procrastinate like I do. Somehow I managed to finish them, although some pages were absolute crap. The pages were filled with sketches, doodles, inspiration, etc.  Desperate times called for desperate measures; I remember using grass stains to draw a nature scene.
WTF? Yeah, exactly.

Anyways, sketchbooking seems like a healthy habit. I bought a new one at the start of my freshman year, but of course it stayed new until the week of spring finals. Thus far, I've done about 20 pages. I thought it'd be fun to feature some of my better pages. It's mostly collage work, incorporating images from Urban Outfitter catalogs and other odds and ends. If anything, this sketchbook will be a book for inspiration, like a mood board of sorts.

I slept in today, not having anything better to do. I got dressed so I wouldn't feel like a total slob. First, I had to patch the jeans up, or else the cheeks would've been hanging out like nobody's business. I didn't bother with straightening my bangs, it's kind of refreshing. My laziness would also explain the lack of footwear.
->Wolf Tank - XXI
->Ethnic Belt, $2 - Goodwill
->Holey Mavi Jeans, $12 - Marshalls
->Tan Knit Shrug, $3 - Goodwill
->Quartz Bullet Necklace, DIY

This took me around 30 minutes. Doodling. I'm pretty sure the magazine image came from an old Teen Vogue. Well, this is what happens when you don't have anything better to do.
At least I enjoyed myself?

However, do not fret! This weekend is chock-full of fun!
We have Cool Shoes on Friday night and Riverfest the rest of the weekend.
HUZZAH!

Can I Count the Ways?

I was cooped up inside all day Saturday and finally went out with my mom. We went to Savers. (I mean, it's right down the street...we couldn't resist!) After getting hit on right when I walked in, I found the coolest popcorn bowl. I was so set on buying it, envisioning all of the lovely movie nights in store...but then I came to my senses. I didn't actually need it. I put it back, pleased with new found self-control. I also found some fabulous nude espadrilles in my size...made in Spain, I took it to be destiny, perfect for when I travel to Spain. But once again, I put them back. I'd much rather find a pair of vintage espadrilles at the flea markets that I've already looked up in Salamanca. Yes, you better believe that I will be an avid thrifter while I'm overseas. Thus, I must hold on to every pretty penny that I can.

However, I gave in when I saw that the manager's special was BOGO on pants. I've been trying to step away from the staple of jeans and I found these awesome "hammer"-esque pants with a fun print to boot. With these in hand, I had to find another pair to complete the sale. I came across these high-waisted khakis in just the right shade. Both fit me perfectly. The clerk charged me for the cheaper pair, which made me feel a lot less guilty about making another purchase in such a short amount of time.

I wore this ensemble to a series of interviews that I was conducting today.
I haven't worn khakis since my uniform days back in middle school. I've had a stigma to khaki slacks and the trio of red, white, and navy polos ever since. I'm hoping these slacks will change that, except for the polos...still not a fan of polos. So many ideas floating about in my head on how to wear these babies.

I love these oxfords. They will definitely travel with me to Spain. SPAIN! I'm so excited. Is it bad that I've spent more time contemplating my wardrobe than reviewing my Spanish?

->Spider-Man T-shirt, $3: Clearance at Target
->Khaki High-Waisted Slacks, BOGO: Savers
->Brown Oxfords, $4: Goodwill

Side-note: I've been accepted as a seller on Market Publique! Guess this means I need to organize my mess o' vintage treasures...oh dear.

I So Love When This Happens...

In my last post, I yapped about how I needed to stay away from thrift stores because I kept finding so much awesome stuff that I didn't originally go in there for, yet I didn't go into detail about any of the finds. I love shoes, especially when they're in my size. Being a 9.5, (VTG size 10!), this is no easy task. I can only assume that ladies had itty-bitty feet back in the day.

Well, I bought this one pair of boot-moccasin hybrids on one of my trips to Savers.
My mental wishlist included a pair of lace-up booties and I thought these fit the bill. They're Dexter brand and in nearly pristine condition. At just $7, I couldn't resist. I suffered a bit of sticker shock once I realized how much I've spent over the course of a week, but all of that vanished when I read WWW's recent post Channeling: Lucas. Featured in the bottom left-hand corner are a pair of eerily similar boots. Of course, they differ in price. Those babies are a whopping $175!

Of course, this meant that I HAD to wear them today. So I did and I took pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Oh, the power of thrift.
