Blue Genie Art Bazaar

While I was in Austin, I was able to hit up the Blue Genie Art Bazaar with all of their awesome vendors,
vendors that targeted a younger (hipper?) demographic.

Needless to say, I wish I had the means for a more lucrative spending habit
...but these pictures will have to suffice.
I was pleased by the various jewelry vendors, but I'm always enamored by anything vintage inspired.
I saw plenty of "reworked" or "upcycled" works, which gave me tons of inspiration for future projects.
It also gave me plenty of more reasons to buy the grab-bags of broken costume jewelry I occasionally come across in my thrifting haunts, not that I necessarily needed another reason to spend my money.

These mounted doll heads mixed just the right amount of creepy and cute. I remember overhearing a father explaining to his young child that the doll's bodies were on the other side of the wall. Precious!

Of course, I couldn't resist photographing these feather fascinator hairpieces.
You can also catch a glimpse of my messy headscarf in the mirror.
It was a rushed morning!

These encaustic pieces were simply amazing, incorporating old photographs with actual butterfly wings!
Absolutely incredible.
The booth itself was also very nicely put together.

Of course, being the person that I am, I couldn't leave empty-handed. I bought my mom a yummy bar of oatmeal and lavender artisan soap and this cute woodgrain print lunchbag for myself.
I mean, they're practical things! I'm not at fault.

Until next time, ♥.

Uncommon Objects

While I was in Austin, we visited perhaps the most "hip" antique mall ever (for me, at least)
by the name of Uncommon Objects located in the SoCo shopping district.
Unfortunately, we slipped inside when there was only 30 minutes left until closing time.
..........Thus the rushed/blurred photography.
It's very difficult to snap a decent photograph and scour simultaneously!
Please bear with me.
I saw two of these babies in the entire antique mall. It creeps me out tremendously.
Not very practical...or affordable for that matter.

Even though this is equally creepy, I looooove doll parts.
I was tempted to buy some doll limbs, but decided against it. I have enough junk in my life.

I was mostly amazed by the impeccable organization and color-coordination of each booth.

It appears as though each booth was carefully thought out and arranged.

My only complaint would be the pricing, but then again, I'm terribly spoiled by my local thrift haunts.

Despite the high prices, I managed to dig up these beauties. Two keys, 6 bucks a pop.
A bit much for rusted metal, but I never come across these (yet).
I've already strung the skeleton key onto a chain making for a quick DIY necklace!

Check out Uncommon Objects for yourself next time you're in Austin!
It's definitely worth a look.

Until next time, ♥.

Peruvian Pan Flute.

I wasn't the only one to go abroad this summer. My friend recently got back from giving a presentation at a conference in Peru. We've had this running joke about pan flutes for a while now, and the "rivalry" between Peru and Chile certainly helps too. He came over yesterday with my gift. My mind totally blanked when he told me to guess. I mean, the shape was definitely obvious...but I probably over-analyzed it. I felt really dumb after I opened it.
But yeah! I have a pan flute, a Peruvian pan flute...for my Chilean band?

The lil' one, in all it's Peruvian glory.

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing...

->Leather Strappy Sandals: Mary Paz
->Bull Fighter Tee: Salamantino Souvenir Shop
->Red Scarf used as Headwrap: Thrifted

Until next time, ♥.

Post-Lolla 2010: Unveiling of the Photos

Now that Lolla 2010 is said and done, I'm back home in the humidity of Arkansas choosing to stay inside (working on some crafts!) and neglecting what needs to be packed up by Saturday. That being said, here are some photos from Lollapalooza, some taken by me...others by my fellow comrades.

Group shot! Taken by Page. We still look half-way decent because we're still in front of the hotel.

This was a candid shot taken by Page. I'm that lil'bitty person with my Spanish leather backpack!

The necessities, the simple "bear" neccessities.
Water bottle to be filled up ever so often at the many filling stations, huge thrifted scarf used to protect our bums from the dirty ground, and my backpack stuffed with other goodies, like sunscreen, smuggled granola bars and starbursts candy. Grabbing the ubiquitous fan is also helpful to combat the heat!

Until next time, ♥.

Lolla Line Up: Day Three

I know the last day of Lollapalooza was Sunday, but due to unusual circumstances (I conked out)
and all of Monday spent in a car...I am just now getting to update.
Now I'm in recovery mode, as in, I just decided to throw some clothes on
(consisting of ripped, baggy jeans and my new Lolla 2010 shirt).
I am the epitome of lazy.

I'll try and be more productive tomorrow, if weather permits.
Until next time, ♥.

Lolla Line Up: Day Two

The day started at noon and it did not end until 10pm. I can't feel my legs.
