Dainty Feathers

School's back in session and with it, the return of long hours spent reading/studying/procrastinating.

I feel bad about neglecting the blog, but honestly...there isn't a whole lot to say. 

I could do outfit posts, but this heats sucks all the creativity out of me...leaving me wearing some pretty "blah" outfits. 

Autumn can't get here any quicker! 

And, the shopping ban is still in effect (though I'm tempted to thrift for shorts...I NEED THEM!)

I did have the garage sale last weekend and I am proud to report that I finally have some financial stability in my life. The night before the sale was spent pricing items, but I did stop to make some small crafts. I knew I couldn't sell my headbands, but I thought these smaller feather hairpins could sell. I whipped up five (photographed none!) and sold two the following day. I sold them for five bucks a pop.

I've been planning to make these for a while now, but just never got around to it. 

They weren't very difficult to make once I figured out a system that didn't leave the whole thing a sticky, unwearable mess.

Each one was placed on half an index card, a modest presentation tactic.

And, of course, I kept one for myself. 

They're not too fussy, yet they add a nice touch to any outfit.

I recently remembered the existence of this necklace and how much I adore it.

So naturally, I've worn it everyday. The little clothespin works!

Finally, I Made Something (Some Things?)

I'm in the middle of packing up all of my belongings in order to return to my apartment on campus. And let me just say, it is no easy task! I didn't realize how much CRAP I've managed to hoard in such a short amount of time. 

(Thus, the shopping ban will still be in effect...perhaps into next month as well!)

 Namely, it's clothes...but my craft boxes are also quickly filling up and well, I have absolutely nothing to show for it. 

So, in the middle of all of my chaos, I decided to put my crafty hands to work.

The end result? Two new pairs of earrings and a slightly elevated frame of mind!

The first pair, shown above, was fashioned from some chain, some feather, some wire, and little gold leaves salvaged from the gaudiest of earrings! I already wore them yesterday when I surfaced from my cave of  darkness to visit my aunt.

I've had these babies in mind for quite some time now but just got around to their execution. 

The tassels were originally joined together, meant to tie back a curtain or something like that. 

Now they've become a shoulder sweeping pair of gaudiness. 

(Seriously, they may be too much for me...I'll give them a chance but I already have someone in mind to "gift" them to!)
 

I feel slightly better now. 

However, I've begun packing up my clothes (can someone say nauseating?), purging as much as I can in the process. I'll be making another trip to consignment and I even listed a few items on my Etsy today! I forgot how much work goes into listing things online! JEEEZ. I just about gave up. Oh, and hopefully I can get around to having a garage sale. 

After so much fun this summer, I seriously need the monies.

Oh, the life of a hustler.

Home Sweet Home

Well, I actually got back on Saturday around 8pm. Sunday was spent hanging out with a good friend of mine and passing out around midnight. Now that I'm back, I still need to update my blog. I'm finding it difficult, but I will persevere. 

Luckily, I have a lot in mind for August. A lot.

There are crafts to be made. Alterations to be done. Lollapalooza this weekend.

Plans for a garage sale. Movin' back in on the 13th. About to begin my second year of college.

I will be straight hustlin'!

Oh, and I'm set on not buying any clothes this month. I'm not even going to walk into any of my haunts. 

I have too much of a hard time resisting temptation, so I won't even bother.

 I will use what I have. Alter. Mix. Think.

It will force me to get creative. It will help me recover from my Spanish expenditures. 

This should be fun.

River Market Memory(s)

It seems like a million years ago since these were taken...though, they're just over a week old.

 I met up with my pal Memory at the River Market downtown for an exchange of goods and some picture playtime.

She purchased this feather headband from me. You see, I've had better luck selling to the locals through my Facebook. I would've updated the Etsy shop, but meeting up with people I know seemed much more appealing and less troublesome this time around. There's nothing like meeting up with friends for food and conversation (and money!) I've made about $100 selling my goods (even doing transactions while I was on the clock at Half of Half!). 

Oh well, mo' monies for Spain!

This is Memory. Ain't she purdy?

We spotted these kiddos splashing around in the spraying fountains near the playground. 

It's a great way to keep cool and immediately we decided to join in on the fun!

I kept squealing from the sudden bursts of water splashing around me. 

Memory did a really good job of capturing the moment because every photo she took of me had me flailing about like a dork. 

Seriously though, I look like a total pansy...but it was so worth it!

Of course, Memory needed a good splash as well. Getting soaked is the ideal way to keep cool in the hot Southern sunshine. 

I mean, the lil' kiddos definitely know what's up!

We had also ventured around the shops in downtown, looking for knickknacks and doodads. 

I picked up a book featuring the Pictorial History of Little Rock for my Spanish host family

 as well as two Natural State pins for my host-brother and host-sister. 

I think pins are neat, let's just hope they think likewise!

Memory picked up this Arkansas Razorback snout for her host family in Austria. 

It's very becoming!

CrayCray Craft Day: Pendant Pandemonium

I stock up on cheap granny glasses and pop out the lenses. 

I finally got around to making them into pendants/brooches during my CrayCray Craft Day. 

The tools of the trade: 

Scissors, hot glue gun, pliers, hardcore glue, jewelry findings, mod podge, 

varnish, ribbon, scrapbook paper,  and magazine images. 

Oh, I forgot the sweat and tears...I kid, I kid.

My mom was sitting at the dining room table with me as I was crafting, 

but she is just a tad bit camera shy.

Here's the backside of the finished product. 

You can see how these babies serve double-duty as both pendant and brooch. 

Pretty shnazzy, eh?

I had to keep one for myself. This particular image is really great. 

It's another one of those slightly inappropriate but no one can tell unless they stare really hard and really closely. 

My mom thinks I'm a pervert.

Sabado & CrayCray Craft Day

I didn't do much Saturday. There was a rummage sale nearby, but I opted to sleep in until 1pm so I wouldn't spend anymore money. Actually, I probably slept in until 2pm. I might be suffering from insomnia. It's a vicious cycle: sleep in, work, stay up late, and repeat. I miss being able to wear cutesy dresses and short-shorts. I feel that my creativity is being stifled by the dress code, but I'm doing my best to comply while maintaining some sense of me.

I finally debuted these brass rings that I bought for 8 bucks a pop at a Riverfest vendor.

I painted the insides with clear nail polish, hoping to prevent green rings. Cool, huh?

After breakfast Sunday morning, I vowed to get some serious crafting done. And that I did. And I probably went out of hand. I was seriously making stuff until 11pm. I took several pictures along the way, but instead of overwhelming everyone with a plethora of photos, I'm going to split up the CrayCray Craft Day over a couple of posts

...including a special gift that I am seriously proud of.

Whoops! Threadbare & Threadless

I told myself that I wasn't going to purchase anything, but I had the urge to reward myself. You see, I finally got around to purging my closet (once again) and I actually took some stuff to consignment today! A lot of it was stuff that was just hanging in my closet, hadn't been worn in ages and probably wouldn't be worn again. Most had been bought during my last two years of high school, when I could scour the racks at Half of Half for high-end pieces at bargain basement prices. The kind lady was really eager to accept my clothes and I was more than willing to part with them. 

It definitely helps that I'll be getting money in exchange!

So onto my WHOOPS moment...checking my email this morning, I saw that Threadless was having a sale. I've avoided Threadless for the longest now, refusing to even peek at the new designs...opting instead to promptly hit delete. Today was different. All of their shirts are $10! Typically, they run for about $20 bucks a pop. I gave in and took a look around...so many new designs! So many new designs that I wanted! Slowly, but surely, I managed to add about 7 shirts to my virtual shopping. Wait! Don't fret...I took three out. 70 bucks on t-shirts would've been excessive. 

But man, I must say that I do love me some Threadless t-shirts!

Riverfest Revisited, Glass Heads and Etsy Shop Opening

I gave up on trying to continue my thoughts on Riverfest: that weekend just got out of hand. However, I must show off some of my fireworks photos! 

And For Your Viewing Pleasure: Some outfit shots!

This is Mango. She thought she wasn't going to be able to go to Riverfest, but I surprised her with a button. Hurrah, hurrah! She sports a classic plaid button-up paired with black shorts, grungy canvas sneakers, and black felt hat.

I opted for a red-striped tank to match my red lipstick, worn with high-waisted khaki shorts, and a scarf turban wrap.

Sophie looks lovely in a black romper and a creme cardi (which I'm pretty sure she scored from me at a clothing swap ages ago) paired with all black canvas sneakers, Africanesque bag, and a straw cloche hat.

It was funny walking around because we definitely stood out amongst the crowd clad in their usual Dirty South garb. I would've taken "street-style" photos, but I saw maybe one kid worth mentioning, and I couldn't work up the courage. Shame on me!

Rummaging through pretty jewels at one of the vendors' booths. I bought two bronze rings. Pictures are coming, after I finish coating them with clear nail polish!

Abracadabra! 

My Etsy Shop hath been stocked with goods, not an overwhelming amount, but stocked nonetheless. I made the fascinators last week (with another batch in the works!) but had no way of photographing them. I wanted to use my sister as a head model, but alas...I never see the kid. My luck changed when I found this awesome glass head at Hidden Treasures.

It's just what I needed! I should name her. Any ideas?

Summer Rip-Off

It's been a whole week since I've moved back in with Moms and Pops for the summer. It's odd not going back to my apartment every night, but it's nice being "home." I say "home" because it's not the same as it once was. I guess that's what happens when you leave the nest. I'm having a hard time adjusting. Luckily, this is only temporary because I made the decision that the presumed rent will be better spent in España. It's such a great motivator; I never want to be in the position of moving back in because of difficulties making ends meet. I refuse.

So, what have I been doing with my time? I anticipated a quick return to retail at Half-of-Half, but so far that has not been the case. It's funny to think that last summer I was working two jobs. It's not that I need the money, I need the distraction, something to do with myself, people to be around before I go mad. Instead, I find myself sleeping in until noon, latest 2pm, and killing time until 10pm, when all the fun usually starts up. It's become a vicious cycle, one I hope to escape, starting Monday.

I can't really complain though. It's nice to be available to do stuff, having two jobs usually got in the way of activities that started before 10pm. So far, I've gone to an outdoor-hippie-let's-paint-our-bodies-and-blow-bubbles kind of shindig, Donaghey Scholars picnic, the Chile Benefit where I volunteered (whored?) myself out for a kissing booth--it was for a good cause!, the typical slue of shows, spontaneous game nights, and the Argenta Art Walk. 

Yeah, I really can't complain...unless I run out of funds!!!

Speaking of dwindling funds, I really ought to stay away from any kind of thrift/vintage/ retail store. I've scored some awesome finds on the cheap, but man! that stuff sure does add up! I go in looking for one specific item and find it, along with a ton of other awesome stuff that's been on my mental wish-list of goods. I've started a second major closet purge in hopes of having a yard sale. I also have hopes of making/selling crafts on etsy. Oh, and taking my nicer, newer pieces to consignment.
