Finally, I Made Something (Some Things?)

I'm in the middle of packing up all of my belongings in order to return to my apartment on campus. And let me just say, it is no easy task! I didn't realize how much CRAP I've managed to hoard in such a short amount of time.
(Thus, the shopping ban will still be in effect...perhaps into next month as well!)
Namely, it's clothes...but my craft boxes are also quickly filling up and well, I have absolutely nothing to show for it.
So, in the middle of all of my chaos, I decided to put my crafty hands to work.
The end result? Two new pairs of earrings and a slightly elevated frame of mind!

The first pair, shown above, was fashioned from some chain, some feather, some wire, and little gold leaves salvaged from the gaudiest of earrings! I already wore them yesterday when I surfaced from my cave of  darkness to visit my aunt.
I've had these babies in mind for quite some time now but just got around to their execution.
The tassels were originally joined together, meant to tie back a curtain or something like that.
Now they've become a shoulder sweeping pair of gaudiness.
(Seriously, they may be too much for me...I'll give them a chance but I already have someone in mind to "gift" them to!)

I feel slightly better now.
However, I've begun packing up my clothes (can someone say nauseating?), purging as much as I can in the process. I'll be making another trip to consignment and I even listed a few items on my Etsy today! I forgot how much work goes into listing things online! JEEEZ. I just about gave up. Oh, and hopefully I can get around to having a garage sale.
After so much fun this summer, I seriously need the monies.
Oh, the life of a hustler.
Until next time, ♥

EXCITING! Just as I was finishing up this post...SOMEONE BOUGHT SOMETHING! Oh my word.

It's about time, I don't think I could take much more of that advanced grammar...
Plus, I'm starting to miss The Natural State.

I am happy to say that I did pass all of my classes! Whoo-hoo!!!
It's time to celebrate, it is my last night here after all. I've got to live it up while I still can.

Rebajas Shall Be The Death Of Me

(Bags from Euro-faves H&M and Mango and the Reina Sofia Museum of Modern Art gift shop)

Here in Spain, it's the Mes de Rebajas. All the stores are touting insane discounts, up to 70% off! Well, we don't have many of these stores in the States, especially not in Arkansas, so you can imagine how eager I was to get my "shop on.". After taking advantage of the wonderful opportunity of visiting the Reina Sofia (and her gift shop), we were allowed to wander off on our own in the city of Madrid. I paired off with my comrade Porntip to visit all of the wonderful stores we drooled over our first day in Madrid. We had no idea what we had in store for us. It was quite the thrilling shopping excursion!

We made it to our destination and visited H&M, Mango, Zara, and a slew of other stores. I did my best not to impulse buy...even putting back a few items! I'm confident that each of my buys are perfect (that will be another post) and hope that I do not suffer from buyer's remorse. If anything, I may have buyer's regret. I'm telling you, these sales are ridiculous!!! However, I must spend my Euros wisely.

Anyways, as we were shop-hopping (kind of like bar-hopping?), we noticed a crowd was building up. Several were donning unusual outfits. Others bore rainbow banners. We saw an elaborate tranny here and there. We didn't think much of it. Orgullo 2010 is taking place here in Spain and we had seen several of the posters saying it was set for July 4th. Again, we didn't think much of it. We were much too giddy from shopping. We stopped  shopping in time to catch the bus so we could meet up with the other students at a bar to watch the soccer match. We quickly realized this was not going to take place.

The buses were shut down for the Orgullo 2010. That crowd was intense. We made our way through and tried to take the subway, but quickly realized that we had absolutely no idea what we were doing. Panic started to set in, but we maintained our composure and prepared to walk all the way back to our hotel. Mind you, we had already walked miles and miles today. Well, we walked. Eventually we found where the streets weren't blocked off and we saw buses! Buses that were running! WE WERE SAVED! We hopped on and made it to the bar to see the winning goal (we missed the one that was disqualified). Speaking of:

For Your Viewing Pleasure: Donning a Spanish Soccer Jersey
Sorry for the crappy mirror-shot, but today was ridiculous.
It wasn't exactly appropriate to ask a classmate to photograph me outside.
We had a situation.
Pretty outfit photos were NOT a priority.
->Spanish Soccer Jersey, Madrid Souvenir Vendor
->High Waisted Shorts, Thrifted
->Leopard Print Scarf worn as Turban Wrap, Thrifted
->Toffee Oxfords, Thrifted

I guess I fibbed a little. I asked someone to photograph me with this gag-butt thing. I thought it was funny.

Well, we hit up El Rastro outdoor flea-market tomorrow, but first I have to repack my luggage because I leave for Salamanca afterwards. That means I finally get to meet my host-family. That means I get to find out if I'll have internet access. That means I finally start class. That means things may change.
I may only get to update once or twice a week! We'll see, we'll see! Stay tuned!

On My Way to the Land o' the Spaniards

This is Bean, cracked out on kitty-nip, straight loungin'.
Similar to what I've been doing these days, sort of...

It is currently 3:30am as I dash to make this quickie of a post. You see, these past couple of days have also been spent packing for Spain and figuring out things that still needed to be bought. For example, I just realized around midnight that I would need a voltage converter so I grudgingly had to rush out to Wally World.

So anyways, I think I'm good to go. I've had to rethink my wardrobe choices a few times, in an effort to pack lighter and to make room for the goodies I plan to purchase.

My posts will be even more sporadic than usual, seeing as how I'm unsure how the Wi-Fi situation will be there. Apparently I can hit up Mickey D's? (Hurrah for Globalization!) Maybe my host-familia will have the hook up? We'll see, we'll see. I doubt anything will be made in the form of crafted-related posts. However, I'm sure I will find loads of inspiration in the streets of Salamanca. Luckily, I will have Cammy Jr. (Canon G10) along to document!
That means I'm currently purging my memory card of photos to make room for new ones!
I decided it would be a good idea to post a few...give you kids something to look at...yeah, something like that.
These pictures are more of the...spontaneous...variety.
My friend needed me to alter this chicken suit for her and, of course,
I had to try it on, during the DSP Student Committee meeting. I have impeccable timing.

Toying around with the crazy features on Cammy Jr.
This picture is of my desk, in my room, in the apartment that I miss dearly.
Oh well, I'll be moving in once more when I get back from Spain.

Blurreddd, but a part of me likes it.

What I wore to Target to purchase a tabletop tripod, in hopes to document outfits in Spain.
Here is an extremely awful outfit photo taken with said (dinky) tabletop tripod.
Needs better lighting, needs better scenery, but like my new Threadless shirt?

A horizon that I won't be looking at for a month.

My flight departs from LR to Atlanta at 12:35pm.
Then around 7pm, I leave Atlanta and make my way to Madrid.
I should arrive on Thursday around 9:35am.

Stay tuned, (hopefully) my future posts will be coming directly from Spain!

Less Than A Week To Go!

I have less than a week until departure to España! I packed last night, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I expected it to be. I doubt I've over packed, besides, I need room for all I the new goodies I know I'll be buying!

I'm not at all worried about what I'll wear. What with globalization, the internet, and street style sites, many around the world are looking similar with trends bleeding across global borders. I still remember how during orientation they told us not to look like "fashion-plates." Of course, I'm not going to be wearing typical t-shirts and ratty jeans, but I will be putting a bit of care into what I choose to wear. It's not complicated to throw on a dress and flats. So, I've got things narrowed down to the basics, with several pieces that can be mixed and matched to create whole new outfits. I'm so excited!

I've been watching these kinds of videos to listen to the street slang and of course, grab some inspiration. But really...they don't dress that much different from Americans, but I'm sure they put a bit more care into what they wear on a daily basis. I doubt I'll see many sneaker/sweat suit combinations. Thank goodness!

I'm also packing my iPod up with new tunes to keep me occupied. I need to create a playlist featuring all of the music I'll be seeing at Lolla! So much to do, I feel like my summer is just now beginning and! It's going to be AWESOME!
