WTF is Moombahton?

Moombahton: Birthed by Dave Nada when he didn't want to freak out Brown kids at a high school party by playing some electro about a year ago. To compromise, he slowed down Afrojack's "Moombah" track so that it reached reggaeton-like qualities. Of course, the Brown people went cray-cray and a new genre in the electro scene was born! 

Being Brown myself, I freaking fell in love with this new movement.

Sun Hotel & Sick/Sea at SHFL

Last night I managed to convince myself to go out.

Pulling up in my car, I realized that hardly anyone was there.

I almost went home. Luckily, I decided to stay.

I was there to see Sun Hotel for the second time. They're an awesome band from Louisiana.

Listening, I became entranced in their post-rock melodies.

They remind me of an Explosions in the Sky...with lyrics.

Sick/Sea opened for them. At first, I was the only one down in the basement that wasn't in one of the bands. 

I guess that's just what happens here in Little Rock when you schedule bands on Hump Day.

Anyways, they're fantastic...reigning from Texas...this is their first week of their first ever tour.

During their set, they made a quick plea for a place to crash for the night. 

Of course, this tugged at my heart strings so that's where they are now. Still sleeping in my living room.

We all ate ice cream last night before going to bed because we are adults and we can make those choices.

Anyways, despite the embarrassingly low attendance at Super Happy Fun Land, 

I've made some new friends and went on a limb to do something new. 

Ah, life...so full of interesting opportunities!

Mind you, I'm not a music critic...but both bands are wonderful.

Gold That Ain't Gaudy.

Continuing yesterday's audiophile theme, check out my headphones!

The  splurge of the semester were these Eskuche rose-gold headphones via 80s Purple.

I justified this small reward because I knew I'd get my money's worth.

You see, I always listen to my iPod as I make my way to class.

Also, my prior earbuds probably made it appear as though I was ignoring friends, 

when I was simply engrossed by whatever I had in rotation at the moment.

I kind of have a thing for music.

At least now people will see these and know that I am not intentionally ignoring them?

And they're the most perfect shade of gold, just dark enough not to be obnoxiously gaudy.

And, not only do they look good...but they sound great!

Who says you can't listen to music and look good whilst doing it?

Back on that Scholarly Grind: A Mix

I've recently noticed a trend of posting mixes out in the blogosphere.

Being somewhat of an audiophile myself, I figured this would be right up my alley.

I opted to make a mix suitable for studying, since that's what seems to occupy most of my time.

I'll usually pick one of the artists and put their entire album on repeat.

Note: This mix can also be listened to during other non-scholarly endeavors.

Silly Hammer Pants.

I actually bought these months back when the manager's special was 2-for-1 at Savers. I bought them along with these fabulous khakis and was charged for the price of the cheaper pair! This, however, is the first time that I've worn these Hammeresque pants. So, of course, this calls for a silly set of outfit photos.

Yeah, I have no idea.

 I think I'm testing the billow-bility of the pants.

 Flying-squirrel pants.

Channeling Michael Jackson? I don't even know. You tell me.

Well, this post's definitely a quickie.

 I have my second ever jewelry-making class tonight!

Then, I'll be leaving that a little bit earlier so that I can make it on time to see Jukebox the Ghost play!

I had plans of seeing Japanther tonight, but obviously those plans fell through.

This was my casual show attire, sans the hat (sorry kiddos, just for funsies).

Instead I took a much-needed nap in my little sister's room and woke up with fabulous bedhead.

I guess I could clean my room.

Riverfest Day 1 / Cool Shoes

I didn't find time to post yesterday, nor did I really have anything of importance to write about. However, I did get ready for a day of festivities.


With Memorial Day, comes Riverfest Weekend. The line-up this year is no SXSW, but it does manage to showcase a couple of great local acts. Button pinned to my loose-fitting tank and Cammy Jr. ready to go, I geared up to meet with some friends to watch Whalefire. The drummer of the band just happens to be my friend Page's brother.

After a fun set, I went home to freshen up and grabbed my things to get ready for the 2nd year Anniversary of Cool Shoes, a monthly dance party here in the Rock. Last month's was a total bust due to super-lame severe thundershowers and tornado warnings. This month's was Beach Party-themed. Anticipating the slew of chicks wearing cut-offs and bikini tops, I went to my local thrift haunts looking for something different. I pretty much freaked out when I found a hibiscus patterned jumpsuit...that fit. I didn't take any outfit shots, but there are a couple of photos from the night. Overall, it was a great night and I'm still sore from all of that dancing!
